Why Solo Women Travel Is Growing

By Dorothy Foster

These days, more and more women are on the road, traveling on their own. In the past, they joined up with coach tours and with other people in groups. But solo women travel is something which has grown in a big way. There are so many places to explore, and so many things that one can do in different parts of the world.

There are many reasons why a woman decides to be more independent like this. Sometimes, it is a decision she has made to actually be more confident and grow within herself. She wants to make sure that she is moving on from some trauma that she has suffered from. It could be a loss of a loved one or a divorce that has set her back in life.

A lot of young women, especially will head off this way for as long as a year to work in a school, teaching English to kids. They may help in the community, doing some farming. When they volunteer they will have a place to stay. At times, they will stay with families, and this can be an experience which they won't forget about. It can enrich their lives.

This is not particularly a way of making a big pile of money and taking advantage of what you have made. Most people want to go and live with the locals in a rural community which they have not been exposed to before. They want to explore the culture and the history. Usually the people in a rural place will welcome you with open arms.

Many women decide to start their travels with another women or with a group, but pull out of this, finding that it is restrictive or that they need their space. Although you are away in another country, you are not completely independent because the group is organizing everything for you. It is not easy to get away and have a little quiet time.

It is important to have a basic plan every time. This is not a plan where you have a strict itinerary. However, in terms of accommodation and the area in which you are going to, it is a good idea to know more about this. It is a good idea for the budget. You obviously don't want to break the bank. Most women travellers are quite strict with their budget. They will turn to destinations which are cheaper.

Many people become more sure of themselves. They build confidence and self esteem. A lot of people decide to take the challenge at a time of their life when things are not going well for them. However, things begin to change as they begin to have positive experiences as well as those which can be challenging but which build confidence at the same time.

Obviously women travellers will hear time and time again of the danger regarding these adventures and what has happened to countless people who have stepped out there into the world. However, one should be aware that there is so much attention in the media every time this happens. Of course, one should also be aware of the dangers of the world. This doesn't only apply to women.
