By Sharon Howard

Touring a city by the day is a great way to uncover the hidden gems that make it unique. For an unforgettable holiday experience, you should plan to go on Atlanta city bus tours. There are numerous historical spots, galleries and malls that will certainly keep you on the edge throughout your trip.

On average, the bus tours offered by majority of the tour agencies around last 5 hours. There are several routes that may be taken, with most trips centered on historical sites and buildings. Some agencies also like to drive tourists by the homes of well known actors, musicians, and business leaders.

Once you pay for your tour, be sure to ask where the designated pickup point is and at what time you should be there. Remember your payment may not cover meals and entry fees to certain areas. The prudent thing to do would be to have some cash on the side.

When on a typical trip, your organizers may stop the bus so that those who feel pressed may relieve themselves. If you get to a site that you are really interested in and do not see yourself leaving soon, you are permitted to stay behind and end your trip at the said location as the remaining group continues touring. Only do this if you know the way back to your hotel.

There are a plethora of places to explore. While it normally takes five days for a newcomer to explore the whole area alone, a guided trip through every interesting site may last five to six hours. One of the things you cannot afford to miss out on is the black history of Atlanta.

A simple exploration of this history will give you lots of insight on what the civil rights movement of the mid to late nineteenth century was about. The Martin Luther King Jr Center has got all the information you need about this. It was started in the year 1968 to create awareness on the legacy of Dr. King. It is run by historians who are knowledgeable about the history of Dr. King and his advocacy for equal rights through nonviolent picketing.

Your itinerary should also include a visit to the Fox Theater. Originally built to be a temple in 1929, it has a history that has seen it change to become a highly visited theatrical venue. Nowadays, it has an ongoing stream of operas, rock concerts and Broadway shows. If your organizers plan well, you may be able to site a performance.

Another interesting location is the Swan House. For long, it has been a favorite setting for movie filming, the last shot set appearing in the Hunger Games movie. It is billed as the most photographed building within the city. Constructed in 1928, the building features a classic exterior and interior. It originally housed the Edward H. Inman family.

Your trip will be incomplete without a tour of Atlantic Station. This is where you get to meet all your shopping needs. It hosts notable stores such as Gap, Victorias Secret, Banana Republic and IKEA. There is an IMAX theater and several restaurants within it as well.
