Discovering A Weekend House Rental New Orleans

By Edward Russell

When visiting New Orleans, otherwise known as the Crescent City, visitors have a number of options when it comes to lodging. Depending on what time of year the visit takes place, rates can be extremely high or lower than many other cities. In fact, during the off season, a weekend house rental New Orleans can be obtained for approximately $70/night.

In most cases, apartments, Air B&Bs, bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels and private residences all have similar rates, especially during the off-season. While this is the case, the off season is New Orleans is somewhat of an understatement though does refer to a period in which there are fewer fairs, festivals and other events than other times of the year. As such, one of the best ways to obtain the best rates is to book a location as far in advance as is possible.

While this is the case, if traveling with a group, there are some amazing deals on renting apartments, houses and other private property. It should be noted that while this is the case, there is often no insurance or protection which covers individuals while staying at the home of local residents. As such, it is important to obtain references from past guests to assure there have not been any issues related to being accused of theft or property destruction.

While extremely unethical, there are people whom might rent out a home simply to falsify incidents in order to file an insurance claim or hold the guests responsible for such damage. One way to avoid this problem is to take pictures and provide a checklist of any noticeable damage to the homeowner before securing a key. If these problems are noticed on arrival, individuals can determine whether or not to go ahead with the stay.

While it can often be difficult to obtain a refund on a pre-paid deposit, the loss can often be far less than having to pay for repairs, or replace items guests are accused of taking, much less court costs. In fact, this is one the main reason some travelers still prefer to stay at hotels, motels or bed and breakfasts rather than at an Air B&B or private home.

In reality, there are far more honest people renting out houses and rooms than dishonest ones. In order to assure this is the case, asking a homeowner or property manager for references, going over a check list of any damages upon arrival or obtaining answers to questions guests may have about the property should be no problem.

One of the most important aspects when renting a place for a specific event such as Mardi Gras or Jazz Fest is to do so within walking or cable car distance if possible. In order to do so, private properties are some of the best options. For, the neighborhoods around the fairgrounds have few quality hotels as many of the houses have been there since the city was established.

When in New Orleans during special events, parking rates can often be outrageous running between $50 and $100/day. In many cases, these fees can be avoided by staying within walking distance from the event. While this is the case, doing so for jazz fest will most often require renting a private residence while French Quarter lodging is often a better choice for Mardi Gras.
