The Arctic Monkeys And Their Indie Music History

By Matthew Morgan

Many social networking sites can give us updates on what is going around the world right now. Aside from that, it also help us in keeping up-to-date on our interest like music especially when it comes to chart-topping songs. Would it be Taylor Swift dominating the charts again or from Arianna Grande? Those are the popular and mainstream ones that people know. Whenever you asked others if they know some rock bands, others might sputter for some answers and give you the most basic or iconic one. You cannot blame them though since not all appreciate the wonders of rock-bands. Nevertheless, if you are a fan of that genre then you should know that some bands like the Magnolias and others had started as an indie.

Venturing in music industry is not that easy especially when you have no connections to some influential people. You would be the luckiest person if some famous icons recognize your talents because of the cover videos you uploaded on YouTube, just like how Justin Bieber was recognized before, thanks to Usher and then suddenly supported you, promoted you and helped you in producing your own music. That can also be the case for a rookie rock band. If promotions went well, their career would boom.

It also works like that with rookie rock bands who wanted to make a name so they make an independent label. And the genre they are playing are what you call indie rock. However, its definition has somehow became unclear nowadays since most bands who were originally on that genre had shifted to the mainstream.

Arctic Monkeys is certainly the top one when it comes to those rock-bands who were working as indie in the beginning and then suddenly grow into the mainstream. They are an English band and was formed in year 2002. Alex Turner was the frontman followed by Matt Helders as their drummer, Mick OMalley for bass guitar and back-up vocals, and Jamie Cook for the keyboard and bass guitar.

Back before they gain popularity, they worked and just played at some gigs. They then record their demos and burned it on the CD so they can give it to their audience for free. Little did they know that someone had distributed to others until the public have noticed their talent. Their fans had even created a fan site for them at MySpace without them knowing.

It was their fans that also contributed to make them successful in their career. And by listening to their music, you would not be surprised on why many individuals invested their effort and time on supporting this band. Their songs became popular and they made six studio albums and also released one live album.

They have also won 7 Brit Awards and has three nominations from Grammy Awards. It is not surprising considering that their songs are good. And their song-writing is very artistic and clever.

And you think Justin Bieber was the only internet sensation before. No, there was also Arctic Monkeys who became like that because of their fans. If you check their channel in YouTube, most songs have reached one hundred million, proving that many persons still are listening to their songs.

Arctic Monkeys shows a good example for every rock bands out there. With the demand of internet now, anyone can promote their music via online. Whether you wanted to do indie or not, as long you have passion, you certainly can make it.
